When it comes to fragrance, I am picky but I am always willing to add something different to my fragrance wardrobe. There are so many difference fragrances available that it seems a shame that people stick to one fragrance. I've always thought of fragrance as an extension of an outfit which is why I like to have a few on the go at a time. A fragrance completes a look and if you pair the wrong one, it can contradict your outfit and mood.
A brand I have been looking to try for some time is Floral Street. It is the sort of brand that you see everywhere but you know nothing about it. The first fragrance was only launched in 2017 and the brand has come a long way since then with not only fragrances but home scents as well.
Whilst researching the brand I found out more about the founder Michelle Feeney on the Floral Street Website and I discovered that she worked for Estee Lauder Companies for years. As a fellow Lauder alumna it was great to see and not really a surprise. If you have experience in the beauty industry you will have worked for Lauder or L'Oreal at some point but it is always great to see someone making their own way in the industry after. Michelle knows the industry and her experience has paid off as Floral Street has taken the fragrance market by storm.
Floral Street
Floral Street is still a pretty underground fragrance brand when you compare it to some of the bigger players however it is available in a lot of big stores like John Lewis and Selfridges. I would say that as a brand it is quite easy to overlook on shelves because the packaging isn't great and doesn't quite match the price of the fragrances.
For those curious about the scents from Floral Street, they have very kindly created multiple discovery sets so you can test them out. They have three sets: a light set, a dark set and a larger discovery set with a mix of the two. I have the light version but am eyeing up the dark version so that I can try the scents the brand has to offer. Not only are these little sets great for testing out the different scents but the friendly sample size is great to throw in any bag for top ups throughout the day.
As I said I have the light version which has 5 of the light floral scents from the brand and as you smell them I think you definitely get the lighter, brighter scents from the brand. These are the sort of scents that I prefer for daytime and now that I've tried them all, I can confirm these are definitely more daytime friendly. None of them have the rich, sexy sophistication that I want in an evening scent. That being said I have definitely found some scents that I love within the 5 fragrances featured in this set.
London Poppy - Soft and Alluring
What a way to start, I thought I would sample each scent as they came in the box and
London Poppy sits first.
Poppy and Barley from Jo Malone London quickly became one of my favourite scents when it was launched as a limited edition and thankfully they brought it back permanently. However if it had never made its way back, I would have been more than happy to pick up this one from Floral Street.
Whilst Poppy and Barley has the gentle, soft almost powdery Poppy note, it also has the Barley which adds a creamy cocoon to the scent but if I am honest I could do without the cocoon which is why I love London Poppy so much. London Poppy lets the Poppy shine through and it is so soft and feminine without being overwhelming. This scent feels very unique and perfect for someone who likes a floral but wants it to be soft.
This sample ended up in my bag for whenever I need fragrance top ups which is how I know I loved it. I would definitely buy a larger size of this perfume but I probably should get through my stock of Poppy & Barley first.
Wonderland Peony - Sweet and Sophisticated
I always seem to bring it back to Jo Malone London but I guess it is the fragrance brand I know the best. Peony and Blush Suede is my ultimate favourite scent and I will always love the sweet Peony combined with fresh Apple and the textured Suede base note. To me Peony and Blush Suede has the perfect balance and I do not think Wonderland Peony quite gets that balance.
Wonderland Peony is a true Peony scent and that makes it quite sweet; because it is so sweet I do not like it as much as the Jo Malone London version, nor as much as London Poppy which I had tried the day before. In comparison to London Poppy this is much more bold and has a real strength behind it whereas I wanted it to be a bit more mellow.
This scent is nice but it certainly isn't my favourite in the set and I wouldn't buy it as I already have a Peony scent that I love and would pick over this any day. It is a shame really as I would have assumed this would have been a favourite.
Electric Rhubarb - Vibrant and Bold
After a disappointing day of the Wonderland Peony scent,
Electric Rhubarb came to save the day. I have a
Rhubarb Candle that I am obsessed with but I never really thought about wearing it as a fragrance but this scent completely changed my mind, it is incredible. Rhubarb is quite a tart, tangy scent and that is definitely present within this scent but at the same time there is a softer side.
In a way it reminds me of my favourite combination from Jo Malone London - Peony & Blush Suede with
Wood Sage & Sea Salt. It has that floral element from the white florals that surround the Rhubarb but you also have Salt and Sea Notes in the heart note which help to keep the Rhubarb from being overwhelmed by sweet notes. Personally I love this balance of the sweet and the salty (which also matches my popcorn preference). This definitely has quite a powdery base note which helps to give the scent a bit more body. I think this scent has been perfectly curated so it could possibly be unisex but most importantly it isn't overly floral.
Not only have Floral Street got the balance right but I think this is my favourite scent in the set as it isn't overwhelming. It is the sort of scent that leaves you smelling good, you know you smell good but you don't feel suffocated by the fragrance. Just like London Poppy this sample has made its way into my handbag and I have been eagerly using it which shows me that this is a fragrance I should be buying. Plus it saves me from having to buy two Jo Malone London scents, you get the same effect within this one fragrance and it is cheaper.
Neon Rose - Unapologetically Feminine
I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about this Rose scent, I am incredible fussy when it comes to Rose scents but somehow Floral Street have created a Rose scent that I really like. This starts off very strong and actually quite green smelling but then as time goes on it gets a bit sweeter and more Rose. It starts to feel less like you have stuck your nose in a Rose.
It begins to get sweeter and sweeter as the heart note comes in. The Rose begins to smell more honeyed which could be the Peach notes starting to come through. This is quite strong, especially when you first spray it but it remains pretty strong for the scents life. All of these factors make me feel a lot of emotions when I wear this scent. At first I'm not a massive fan, then I like it a lot, further down the line I still like it especially when it has mellowed but then at the end of the day I do not want to smell it any longer. If you spray this on your clothes the scent will last for days which is great if you love it but if you don't it can be a bit much.
Oddly I prefer this Rose scent over the Peony scent which is quite unusual because Peony has always been one of my favourite scents. Out of the two scents I would hands down pick this one. If you are a fan of a Rose scent, you are going to like this one and it is definitely worth a try.
Arizona Bloom - Sunshine and Coconuts
The moment you spray Arizona Bloom you are transported to a tropical island with a Pina Colada in your hand. In a way it reminds me of Bronze Goddess from Estee Lauder but this is definitely more floral and less Vanilla with more woody notes. The brightness of this scent is perfect for Summer and I have really been enjoying using this when there has been warm weather, which to be honest has been lacking in the UK.
Arizona Bloom is not overly strong so it isn't overwhelming, it just had a presence. I think this scent and London Poppy are the two scents that feel comforting whilst the others are bold and strong. I have no issue with this but there is a time and place for all fragrances. The longevity of this scent is pretty good and the longer the scent is around, the more the fig comes out which is what makes this scent the most unisex of the scents in this set.
If you are looking for a scent that is similar to Bronze Goddess but isn't Bronze Goddess give Arizona Bloom a go, it feels bright and cocooning. I feel like I would like this in a Summer candle and thankfully Floral Street cater to this. I feel the space for this fragrance has been taken by Bronze Goddess already and it is such an iconic that it cannot be beat.
From a brand called Floral Street as you would expect, all of these scents are floral but through testing them all you get to see just how different floral scents can be. People are very quick to say they don't like a floral scent but I'm sure everyone could find a scent they like within the Floral Street line up.
All of the scents in this set are light and perfect for this time of year but Floral Street do also have a Dark Discovery Set which I am sure is where you will find the richer, deeper floral scents from the brand. I have actually bought the Dark Set so I will be giving those a go over the next few weeks.
All in all Floral Street is definitely worth a try and I know I will most certainly be trying more from the brand. I would actually be intrigued to give some of their home scents a go. Have you tried Floral Street? What do you think if so?
